Excerpt Three
" On her first day at the Luftwaffe factory, Grandma was given a pair of cheap felt gloves without fingers. They were supposed to help workers carry hot sheets of steel from the furnace to the conveyor belt. “I am not going to wear those kraut gloves!” Grandma said to other women. She would grab the hot metal with her bare hands. The sheets were too heavy for her and too hot to handle, so she would use the top of her head to distribute the weight. After a few weeks she had a bald spot on top of her head. "
